Statement from Team USA Athletes' Commission on Kamila Valieva CAS Decision
by Team USA Athletes' Commission
On behalf of the thousands of Team USA athletes who practice and advocate for clean and safe sport, Team USA Athletes’ Commission is incredibly pleased by yesterday’s decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Congratulations to Evan Bates, Karen Chen, Nathan Chen, Madison Chock, Zachary Donohue, Brandon Frazier, Madison Hubbell, Alexa Knierim, Vincent Zhou from Team USA for finally being awarded well-deserved gold medals for their 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic performance. Although nothing can replace their lost moment at the podium during the Games, these Team USA Athletes, as well as all impacted athletes, must—at minimum—be afforded a medal ceremony to celebrate their monumental accomplishment. We applaud these athletes for fortitude, character, and patience during this process.
This decision is a welcome step in the right direction for the anti-doping movement, but we have a long way to go. No athlete should have to endure this arduous process ever again. Change is needed, and it is needed now.
