Team River Runner Blue Ridge Shenandoah Virginia Team River Runner (TRR), established in August 2004 by kayakers in the Washington, DC area, is a primarily volunteer non-profit organization run by a council of kayakers and overseen by a board of directors. TRR was initially established to help active duty military personnel wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan who were recovering at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. With the success there obvious and the opportunity elsewhere apparent, TRR expanded to other Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) chapter sites in 2007. TRR envisions a national network which creates innovative paddling programs designed to assist with the recovery of those injured while serving our country. Team River Runner Virginia Beach Team River Runner (TRR), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, gives active duty service members and veterans an opportunity to find health, healing, and new challenges through whitewater boating and other paddling sports. The benefits of TRR have as much to do with creating a social network and support system as they do with learning water sports skills that provide an exciting adventure lifestyle that suddenly seemed lost due to injury. The program also encourages family members to participate whenever possible. Team River Runner Virginia Beach volunteers undergo training in kayaking fundamentals, equipment maintenance, and safety. Experienced instructors provide guidance on perfecting rescue skills, aiding in wounded warrior kayaking, and rescue adaptation. We also train for surf kayaking, open water paddling, whitewater paddling and racing. | |
