USOPC Coaching created guiding documents to support quality sport experiences. We realize that focusing on sport holistically is a way to cultivate sustainable quality in sport programs from youth through elite levels.
The documents created include:
Quality Coaching Framework - a resource created for coach developers and NGBs that provides a set of overarching principles designed to inform how to coach most effectively. It is also a tool to self-assess or create a comprehensive coach training curriculum and experiences.
Quality Coaching Principles are derived directly from the Quality Coaching Framework and target coaches and coach developers as the primary audiences. The principles bring the QCF to life with specific ways in which coaches should be prepared for their coaching responsibilities. The Principles also provide examples of what each ‘looks like in action’ to be more relatable and relevant to coaches.
American Development Model - Taken from the great work from USA Hockey, USOPC’s ADM utilizes long-term athlete development and quality coaching concepts to promote sustained physical activity, athlete safety, and age-appropriate development with the goal of creating a positive experience for athletes across all sports at all levels of competition. The ADM is a visual concept designed to help consumers and NGBs build and deliver programs that are focused on the individual athlete. The visual model illustrates age-appropriate expectations and concepts for each stage of development.
Quality Parenting Framework - the QPF highlights how to involve parents and guardians effectively across a range of sport settings. The document establishes a common language and provides best principles for high-quality sport parenting, proving opportunity for including and engaging parents and guardians as part of quality sport programs. This document provides evidence-based, informed principles on how stakeholders can collectively think of, speak about, encourage and enact high quality parenting across the range of participatory, competitive, and Team USA sport contexts.
Each document provides a framework or outline for NGBs and sport organizations to use as a guide to optimize resources, define areas for improvement, and provide guidance to stakeholders on what good looks like.
USOPC Coaching will be adding to the inventory of supporting resources for each framework/resource, including webinars, presentations and in-person learning opportunities. Check back for more!
